ci kb How to Perform a Basic System Check

Applies to DSI® Cloud Inventory® Platform (“Platform”) versions 7, 8, and 9.

  • Log into the Platform URL from a browser. [1]
  • Successful login validates that the DSIManager service is running on the server you have browsed to.
  • In Platform, navigate to Monitor > System Monitor.
  • Confirm all your Platform server(s) are listed on the System Monitor page.
  • If a Platform server is missing, that may indicate that the Platform server is down or its DSIManager service is not running.
  • For each Platform server on the System Monitor page:
  • Confirm the expected Agent(s) are running as indicated by…
    • CURRENT STATUS = [icon name=”check”] (green check mark)
    • Agents:
      • Asynchronous Function Agent [A]
      • Backup Agent
      • Communication Agent [B]
      • Data Replication Agent
      • DSI Mobile Enterprise Platform Manager [icon name=”check”] [C]
      • DSI Mobile Enterprise Platform Portal [icon name=”check”] [C]
      • LDAP Extraction Agent [D]
      • Licensing Agent [D]
      • Log Maintenance Agent [D]
      • Printing Agent [A]
  • Notes:
    • [A] Usually only runs on one of the Platform servers.
    • [B] Runs on most Platform servers.
    • [C] These Agents should be running.
    • [D] Cannot run continuously, so probably not running… but could be running at the moment you look, if it is set to “Run periodically”.
  • Confirm the CPU and MEMORY usage displayed to the right of each applicable agent are in an acceptable range. [2]
  • In Platform, navigate to Monitor > Transaction Workbench.
  • If record(s) are displayed, then your Platform system is successfully communicating with the Platform SQL database (if your system uses a SQL database, which most do).
  • Confirm the first record has a When Received date-time that you are expecting based upon when your system was last used. [3]
  • Look at the first page or two of transactions for any records with Status value of “Error”.
  • A lot of records with “Error” status may indicate an issue.
  • The value in the Errors column can help you determine if there is an issue.

Notes

  1. Platform URL - Warning: As a rule, you should only browse to and log into the URL for the license-owner/primary Platform server.
  2. CPU and MEMORY - Suggestion: If you do not know what the acceptable range should be for your system, take note of the current range so you can construct acceptable ranges for each Agent running on your system.
  3. Transaction Workbench Records - Note: The record at the top of the page is the most recent record. (Press “F5” to refresh the records.)
